Biography
Mattie MacNeil, born 1997, in Auckland, is a second generation Scottish-New Zealander. She is a multi-disciplinary artist currently based in Auckland, New Zealand. Her practice revolves around graphic design, fabrics, photography, video, and painting.
She has always been interested in unconventional topics, ranging from social dysfunction, unusual behaviour and personality traits, the excessive, crime and humanity. When it comes to narrowing down her choice of topics, her approach to materials is playful and experimental. From using acrylic paint, fabric, scrap metal, adult store paraphernalia, and antiques. She conveys her research into philosophical theory and artivism with the use of materiality in her artwork.
